For the most part, I’ve stepped away from Tumblr, but seeing as how most of my facebook friends would kill me for spoilers (even when labeled properly) I’ll post this here.
For the most part, I have to say the Finale for the series was excellently executed and very well written. I have to say however that the lack of regard for the mother was a deal-breaker. I’ll try to limit spoilers still, but it seems that Ted’s mourning period was completely glossed over on the way to the otherwise well-executed ending. Everyone seemed all too eager to forget about the mom in favor of Robin and explain this away with nothing more than “well, its been six years so what the hell”.
I feel like maybe we should have seen Ted mourning and maybe somehow experienced an inner monologue in which Ted lets go and moves on. At least have the Mom say “I want you move on and love again” or something like that. Without this much needed addition, it feels like they sorta just ignore the fact that the mother, who they spent the entire series building up (at some points revealing Ted’s absolute adoration of this woman and luring the audience into a similar adoration of this character and her role in the story), was a huge part of Ted’s life and is certainly part of the equation when Ted finally decides to move on.
Otherwise, I thought they sculpted the rest of the story in a brilliant manner, but everyone just seemed to conveniently forget the title character.
Maybe I was grabbin’ a drink when they handled the shit found fault with but barring this, I’m just a little sour about a series that has long been one of my favorites.
